Product Name Isopropanol, Molecular Biology Grade, ≥99.5% Purity
Catalog No. ATR-SDS-0017
Description Anhydrous isopropanol (2-propanol) purified to molecular biology grade specifications with absorbance tested at 260 nm and 280 nm to confirm absence of nucleic acid and protein contaminants. Ideal for DNA precipitation, RNA purification protocols, and general laboratory solvent applications where high chemical purity and low UV absorbance are essential. Each lot is tested for nucleases and certified DNase/RNase-free.
Intended Use DNA and RNA precipitation in nucleic acid purification workflows; general laboratory solvent for molecular biology reactions; cleaning and decontamination of laboratory surfaces where ethanol alternatives are preferred.
Principle / Technology Organic solvent for selective precipitation of nucleic acids from aqueous solutions in the presence of monovalent cations
Sample Type Suitable for DNA, RNA, and oligonucleotide precipitation from aqueous solutions
Components / Formulation Isopropanol (CAS 67-63-0), ≥99.5% purity; moisture content <0.1%
Storage Conditions Store at 15–25 °C in tightly closed original container; keep away from heat sources and open flames; flammable liquid
Shelf Life 36 months from manufacture date in unopened container
Package Specifications 500 mL, 1 L, 2.5 L amber glass bottles; 10 L HDPE container

Key Features Tested DNase/RNase-free per lot; absorbance A260 <0.05, A280 <0.03 (1 cm path vs. water); low evaporation residue <0.0005%; filtered through 0.22 µm membrane; endotoxin <0.01 EU/mL
Purity ≥99.5% by GC; meets ACS and molecular biology specifications
Concentration As specified; typically neat or concentrated solution
Activity / Unit Definition Solubilization capacity as specified in product description
Molecular Weight 60.10 g/mol
Source / Origin Synthetic, purified, and quality tested
pH Range / Optimal pH Not applicable — organic solvent
Shipping Conditions Ambient temperature; flammable liquid Class 3, UN 1219; ship per IATA/ADR regulations
Expiration Date / Stability 36 months unopened; retest date 12 months after opening; avoid moisture absorption from atmosphere
Regulatory / Compliance For laboratory use only; CAS 67-63-0; GHS02/GHS07 classified; signal word: Danger; UN 1219, Class 3 flammable liquid
Compatibility Compatible with polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and glass; may attack some plastics including polystyrene and acrylic at prolonged contact
Recommended Buffer System Use directly or dilute in compatible solvent as per protocol
Application Notes / Precautions For DNA precipitation, use 0.6–1.0 volumes of isopropanol per volume of aqueous DNA solution. Precipitate at room temperature for 10–15 minutes. Wash pellet with 70% ethanol (not included). For RNA precipitation, use 1 volume isopropanol with 0.1 volume 3 M sodium acetate, pH 5.2. Do not use near open flames; work in a well-ventilated area.
Batch-to-Batch Consistency Purity within ±0.5% of specification; water content within tolerance

For research use only, not for clinical use.
