| Product Name | Glycerol, Molecular Biology Grade, ≥99.5%, Ultrapure |
| Catalog No. | ATR-SDS-0018 |
| Description | Ultrapure anhydrous glycerol (glycerin, propane-1,2,3-triol) purified for molecular biology and biochemical applications. This high-viscosity polyol is tested to be free of DNase, RNase, and protease activities, making it suitable for enzyme storage buffers, PCR additives, cryoprotectant formulations, and protein stabilization. The lot-specific certificate of analysis includes UV absorbance, density, and water content measurements. |
| Intended Use | Enzyme storage and stabilization; PCR reaction additive; bacterial glycerol stock preparation; cryoprotectant for cell freezing media; protein crystallization; density gradient centrifugation media component. |
| Principle / Technology | Polyol osmolyte and cryoprotectant that stabilizes protein conformation through preferential hydration and reduces ice crystal formation during freezing |
| Components / Formulation | Glycerol (CAS 56-81-5), ≥99.5% purity; moisture <0.3%; chloride <0.0001% |
| Storage Conditions | Store at 15–25 °C in tightly closed original container; protect from moisture; hygroscopic material |
| Shelf Life | 48 months from manufacture date in unopened container |
| Package Specifications | 100 mL, 500 mL, 1 L HDPE bottles; sterile-filtered option available |
| Product Form | Clear, colorless, viscous liquid; odorless |
| Key Features | DNase, RNase, and protease tested free per lot; endotoxin <0.01 EU/mL; A260 <0.04, A280 <0.03 (neat, 1 cm path); heavy metals <5 ppm; chloride <1 ppm; USP/EP/BP pharmacopoeia compliant for non-injectable applications |
| Purity | ≥99.5% by GC; water content <0.3% by Karl Fischer |
| Concentration | As specified; typically neat or concentrated solution |
| Activity / Unit Definition | Solubilization capacity as specified in product description |
| Molecular Weight | 92.09 g/mol |
| Source / Origin | Synthetic, purified, and quality tested |
| pH Range / Optimal pH | Not applicable — organic solvent |
| Shipping Conditions | Ambient temperature; non-hazardous for transport; protect from freezing which may cause container damage due to expansion |
| Expiration Date / Stability | 48 months unopened; retest 24 months after opening; protect from moisture absorption which reduces effective concentration |
| Regulatory / Compliance | For laboratory and research use only; CAS 56-81-5; not classified as dangerous goods; USP/EP grade specifications met for purity parameters |
| Compatibility | Compatible with all common laboratory materials; hygroscopic — always close container immediately after use; avoid contamination with metal spatulas |
| Recommended Buffer System | Use directly or dilute in compatible solvent as per protocol |
| Application Notes / Precautions | For bacterial glycerol stocks, mix 500 µL overnight culture with 500 µL sterile 50% glycerol (prepare by diluting with sterile water). Store at -80 °C. For PCR addition, glycerol at 5–10% (v/v) final concentration can improve amplification of GC-rich templates. Pre-warm to room temperature before pipetting to reduce viscosity. |
| Batch-to-Batch Consistency | Purity within ±0.5% of specification; water content within tolerance |
For research use only, not for clinical use.
