| Product Name | L-Carnitine Assay Reagent |
| Catalog No. | CMTR-HMM-0039 |
| Description | Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It participates in the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix via the carnitine/acylcarnitine shuttle, where β-oxidation occurs to generate acetate, which then enters the TCA cycle to produce energy. L-carnitine is typically sold as a dietary supplement. Carnitine has two stereoisomers, but only L-carnitine possesses biological activity. |
| Application | This product is used for detecting free L-carnitine in biological samples (e.g., serum). |
| Principle | The transfer of the acetyl group from CoA to carnitine results in the formation of free CoA, which further reacts with the OxiRed probe in an oxidative reaction, producing fluorescence (Ex/Em 535 nm, 587 nm) and absorbance (570 nm). |
