| Product Name | Sphingomyelin Assay Reagent |
| Catalog No. | CMTR-HMM-0042 |
| Description | Phospholipids are the only non-phospholipid lipid substances in cell membranes, formed by two hydrogen chains attached to a carbon head group, which is derived from serine rather than glycerol. Sphingomyelin is a major component of cell membranes, and its metabolic products include ceramides (Cer) and sphingosine (Sph) and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), are biologically active signaling molecules that act as first and/or second messengers to regulate cellular activities such as growth, differentiation, aging, and apoptosis in many important signal transduction processes. |
| Application | This product is used to detect neutral sphingomyelin (SM) activity or screen for SM inhibitors. |
| Principle | The fluorescence intensity of the AbRed indicator is directly proportional to the amount of phosphocholine formed, and thus also to the SM content. The AbRed indicator allows the detection results to be read using a fluorescence reader or an absorbance reader. |
