| Description | This gene encodes a component of the complement system, a part of the innate immune system that plays an important role in inflammation, host homeostasis and host defense against pathogens. The encoded preprotein is processed by protein hydrolysis to produce a variety of protein products, including C5α chain, C5β chain, C5a allergenic toxin, and C5b. The C5 protein consists of an alpha chain and a beta chain, which are linked by disulfide bonds. Cleavage of the α chain by the convertase leads to the formation of the C5a allergenic toxin, which has potent spasmogenic and chemotactic activities, and the C5b macromolecular cleavage product, a subunit of the membrane attack complex (MAC). In a model of allergic lung disease, mice with a pure mutation in this gene exhibit impaired fracture healing and enhanced inflammatory responses. |

| Detection Principle | The target antibody is coated in a 96-well microplate to form a solid-phase carrier. Standards or samples are added to the microplates, respectively, and the target is bound to the antibody on the solid-phase carrier. Then, horseradish peroxidase-labeled antibody is added. The unbound antibody is washed off and thoroughly washed again. After that, TMB substrate is added for color development. TMB is converted into blue under the catalysis of peroxidase and then into the final yellow under the action of acid. The depth of the color is positively correlated with the target in the sample. The absorbance (O.D. value) is measured at a wavelength of 450nm using an microplate reader, and the sample concentration is calculated. |
