| Description | Serum complement levels can be altered in many pathologic situations and are relevant in the diagnosis, etiologic research, and prognosis of a number of diseases. When ischemia, coagulative necrosis, and toxic necrosis are present, the tissues can be caused to release higher amounts of proteolytic enzymes, resulting in a decrease in complement hemolytic activity and each complement component.
