Description	T4 DNA polymerase from phage T4 catalyses 5-prime to 3-prime DNA synthesis on template and primer while carrying strong 3-prime to 5-prime exonuclease activity and no 5-prime to 3-prime exonuclease activity. The balance of synthesis and degradation lets the enzyme convert overhanging DNA ends to clean blunt molecules, exchange labels through replacement synthesis for probe preparation, and support second-strand reactions in site-directed mutagenesis and ligation-independent cloning.
