Product Name Matrigel Basement Membrane Matrix, Growth Factor Reduced
Catalog No. ATR-CCR-0020
Description A solubilized basement membrane preparation extracted from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm mouse sarcoma, with reduced growth factor content, that polymerizes at 37°C to form a reconstituted basement membrane for three-dimensional cell culture.
Intended Use Three-dimensional culture of cells in a physiologically relevant extracellular matrix environment; angiogenesis assays; stem cell differentiation; tumor cell invasion studies; organoid culture establishment.
Principle / Technology The matrix contains laminin, collagen IV, entactin, and heparan sulfate proteoglycans that self-assemble at 37°C into a hydrogel resembling native basement membrane; growth factor reduced formulation provides a more defined environment with lower background signaling.
Detection Method Tube formation assay for endothelial cells, organoid formation efficiency, cell invasion through Matrigel-coated Transwell inserts
Sample Type Endothelial cells (HUVEC) for angiogenesis, tumor cells for invasion assays, stem cells for organoid culture, primary tissue-derived cells
Performance Range / Specifications Gels at 37°C within 30 minutes; protein concentration 8–12 mg/mL; endotoxin <1.5 EU/mL
Sensitivity / LOD N/A
Specificity N/A
Reaction Conditions / Protocol Thaw overnight at 4°C on ice; keep all materials and Matrigel on ice to prevent premature gelation; add to pre-chilled cultureware; incubate at 37°C for 30 min to gel.
Components / Formulation Solubilized EHS mouse sarcoma basement membrane proteins in DMEM, growth factor reduced by ammonium sulfate precipitation
Storage Conditions -20°C or -80°C; thaw overnight at 4°C; do not refreeze
Shelf Life 12 months at -20°C
Package Specifications 5 mL, 10 mL, 1.5 mL aliquot pack
Product Form Frozen liquid, gels at 22–37°C
Quality Control Protein concentration, gelation verification, endotoxin, sterility, angiogenesis assay functional testing
Key Features Growth factor reduced; self-polymerizes at 37°C; standard for 3D culture and angiogenesis; mouse origin; widely cited in literature
