| Product Name | Lysozyme from Egg White |
| Catalog No. | IVDRM-0545 |
| Description | Also known as muramidase, Lysozyme breaks down bacterial cell walls and thereby raises the efficiency of protein and nucleic acid extraction. It hydrolyses the beta-1,4 glycosidic bonds between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in the cell wall, turning insoluble mucopolysaccharide into soluble glycopeptides so the wall ruptures and the cell contents escape. Gram positive bacteria, whose walls are rich in peptidoglycan, are very sensitive, while gram negative bacteria respond weakly unless EDTA is added to chelate the calcium ions of the outer membrane. Adding a nuclease such as DNase I during E. coli lysis markedly improves efficiency. The preparation is free of RNase, DNase and protease, shows activity above 20 KU per mg across pH 6 to 9, and is stored at -20°C for three years. |
