| Description | Luminol, also known as 3-aminophthalhydrazide, is a stable chemiluminescent reagent used in chemiluminescent immunoassay systems. At room temperature it appears as yellow crystals or beige powder. Oxidation can produce blue-violet light in the luminol reaction. Metal complexes and transition-metal ions such as Fe3+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and Cr2+ act as catalysts, and horseradish peroxidase is a commonly used catalyst in chemiluminescent immunoassays. |
