Product Name Amphotericin B (Fungizone), 250 µg/mL, 100x Solution
Catalog No. ATR-CCR-0014
Description A sterile 100-fold concentrated Amphotericin B solution for the prevention of fungal and yeast contamination in mammalian cell culture, formulated as a solubilized preparation in deoxycholate.
Intended Use Antifungal prophylaxis in cell culture media to prevent contamination by Candida, Aspergillus, and Saccharomyces species during extended culture experiments and primary cell isolation procedures.
Principle / Technology Amphotericin B binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, forming transmembrane channels that increase permeability to monovalent ions, leading to cell death; mammalian cells are relatively resistant due to cholesterol versus ergosterol in their membranes.
Detection Method Antifungal efficacy with Candida albicans challenge, cell cytotoxicity at working concentration
Sample Type Mammalian cell culture media requiring antifungal protection, particularly for primary cell isolation from potentially contaminated tissue sources
Performance Range / Specifications Working concentration 2.5 µg/mL at 1:100 dilution; effective against Candida, Aspergillus, and most other fungi
Sensitivity / LOD N/A
Specificity Antifungal; limited antibacterial activity; ineffective against viruses and mycoplasma
Reaction Conditions / Protocol Add 5 mL per 500 mL medium (1:100 dilution); use at working concentration continuously; some cell lines may show sensitivity at concentrations above 2.5 µg/mL.
Components / Formulation Amphotericin B 250 µg/mL, sodium deoxycholate as solubilizing agent, in sterile water
Storage Conditions -20°C (long term); 2–8°C after thawing, protect from light; do not refreeze
Shelf Life 12 months at -20°C; 4 weeks at 2–8°C after thawing
Package Specifications 50 mL, 100 mL
Product Form Liquid concentrate (100x), sterile
Quality Control Potency by antimicrobial assay, sterility, endotoxin, cytotoxicity validation with reference cell lines
Key Features Sterile 100x concentrate; effective against broad spectrum of fungi; validated for mammalian cell culture; light sensitive; compatible with penicillin-streptomycin
