| Product Name | 3:1 Agarose |
| Catalog No. | IVDRM-0116 |
| Description | Agarose is a purified linear galactan hydrocolloid obtained from agar or agar-bearing seaweed, structured as a linear polymer of β-D-galactopyranose (1→4)-linked to 3,6-anhydro-α-L-galactopyranose. This 3:1 agarose offers much higher resolution of PCR products and small DNA fragments (below 1000 bp) than conventional agarose. Additional advantages include easy dissolution with clear gel solutions, the ability to cast gels at concentrations up to 5%, very low background, and stable, consistent quality. |
| Intended Use | High-resolution separation of PCR products and small DNA fragments below 1000 bp; routine nucleic acid analysis by gel electrophoresis and blotting techniques such as Northern and Southern blotting; protein applications such as radial immunodiffusion (RID). |
| Principle / Technology | The 3:1 agarose formulation provides enhanced molecular sieving for small DNA fragments, achieving approximately 2% size resolution. Gels can be prepared at concentrations up to 5% to sharpen small-fragment separation. Key matrix parameters include sulfate content, gel strength, gelling point, and electroendosmosis (EEO). |
| Sample Type | PCR products and small DNA fragments (below 1000 bp). |
| Performance Range / Specifications | Recommended range: PCR products and small DNA fragments below 1000 bp Size resolution: approximately 2% Maximum gel concentration: up to 5% Easy to dissolve; clear gel solutions; very low background Stable, consistent quality |
| Reaction Conditions / Protocol | Dissolve in electrophoresis buffer by heating and cast at the desired concentration, up to 5% for maximal small-fragment resolution. |
| Components / Formulation | Purified 3:1 linear galactan polysaccharide extracted from agar or agar-bearing seaweed. |
| Storage Conditions | Store dry at room temperature. |
| Shelf Life | 5 years. |
| Package Specifications | 5 g; 25 g; 100 g |
| Product Form | Powder |
| Quality Control | Consistent quality; electrophoretic performance validated by high-resolution separation of small DNA fragments (approximately 2% size resolution); gels exhibit very low background. |
| Purity | Sulfate content is monitored as the purity indicator, as sulfate is the major ionic group present in agarose; gels exhibit very low background. |
| Shipping Conditions | Shipped at room temperature. |
| Expiration Date / Stability | Stable for 5 years when stored dry at room temperature. |
| Compatibility | Suitable for analysis of PCR products and small DNA fragments; compatible with standard gel electrophoresis and blotting workflows such as Northern and Southern blotting. |
| Application Notes / Precautions | For maximal resolution of small fragments, cast gels at concentrations up to 5%. Size resolution is approximately 2% (e.g., a 100 bp fragment can be resolved from fragments differing by about 2 bp). |
| Batch-to-Batch Consistency | Stable, consistent quality from lot to lot. |
