Description A guanidine-based inactivating transport medium that simultaneously preserves nucleic acids and inactivates infectious agents in nasopharyngeal specimens for safe transport and molecular diagnostic testing.
Intended Use Collection, inactivation, and nucleic acid preservation of nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab specimens for RT-PCR and other molecular diagnostic testing of respiratory pathogens.
Principle / Technology Guanidinium thiocyanate denatures viral and bacterial proteins, inactivating infectious agents on contact while simultaneously lysing cells and stabilizing released nucleic acids through inhibition of endogenous nucleases.
