| Product Name | EDTA tripotassium salt (EDTA K3) anticoagulant >99.5% purity, CAS 65501-24-8 |
| Catalog No. | ATR-SPS-0050 |
| Description | Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tripotassium salt (EDTA K3) is a chelating agent widely used in vacuum blood collection tubes and research applications. Compared with EDTA dipotassium salt (EDTA K2), its chemical properties and physiological effects differ slightly. Chemically, EDTA K3 (formula C10H19KN2O9, CAS 65501-24-8) is a white crystalline powder that binds metal ions to form complexes, forming stable complexes at a pH of around 8.0. In blood, EDTA K3 binds primarily to calcium ions. Compared with EDTA K2, EDTA K3 contains an additional potassium ion, which can neutralize anticoagulant substances in the blood and thereby enhance the anticoagulant effect; its pH is also slightly lower than that of EDTA K2, which can influence its chelation performance. |
| Intended Use | Anticoagulant additive for vacuum blood collection tubes, used for the collection of whole blood and blood components such as plasma, platelets, and leukocytes; also suitable for research applications. |
| Principle / Technology | EDTA K3 prevents coagulation by chelating calcium ions in the blood, and protects blood cells from damage during collection, transport, and separation. The additional potassium ion relative to EDTA K2 helps neutralize anticoagulant substances in the blood, enhancing the anticoagulant effect. |
| Sample Type | Whole blood and blood components (plasma, platelets, leukocytes) |
| Package Specifications | 500 g/bottle |
| Product Form | White crystalline powder |
| Purity | >99.5% |
| pH Range / Optimal pH | Forms stable complexes at approximately pH 8.0; its pH is slightly lower than that of EDTA K2. |
| Compatibility | Not compatible with other anticoagulants; must not be used in combination with them. |
| Application Notes / Precautions | Do not mix EDTA K3 with other anticoagulants, as this will affect its chelation performance. During blood collection, mix thoroughly to ensure EDTA K3 is evenly distributed throughout the blood. |
