| Principle | Free fatty acids are converted into coenzyme A derivatives by acyl-CoA synthetase. These derivatives are then oxidized by acyl-CoA oxidase to produce hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide is subsequently processed by enzymes and reacts with the probe to produce red color (λmax = 570 nm) and fluorescence (Ex/Em = 535/587 nm). Palmitic acid is used to generate the standard curve. |
