Product Name Laboratory Waste Decontamination Solution, Bleach-Free, DNA/RNA Destruction Formula
Catalog No. ATRCS-0030
Description Bleach-free liquid decontamination solution for inactivation of biological waste including genetically modified organisms, pathogenic bacterial cultures, viral stocks, and nucleic acid-containing samples before disposal. The peracetic acid-based oxidizing formula achieves sterilization-level decontamination (SAL 10^-6) within 30 minutes without the corrosive effects and toxic chlorinated by-products associated with sodium hypochlorite (bleach). Suitable for treating liquid biological waste, contaminated pipette tips, microcentrifuge tubes, and small-volume spill decontamination in BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratories.
Intended Use Pre-disposal decontamination of liquid biological waste, contaminated consumables, and small spill treatment in molecular biology, microbiology, and clinical laboratories requiring nucleic acid destruction and microbial inactivation.
Principle / Technology Peracetic acid generates reactive oxygen species (hydroxyl radicals, singlet oxygen) that oxidize microbial proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. The strong oxidizing potential cleaves phosphodiester backbone of DNA/RNA, rendering nucleic acids non-amplifiable and non-infectious.
Detection Method Add to liquid waste at 5-10% v/v; mix and let stand 30 minutes; for solid waste, immerse completely in working solution for 30 minutes; dispose according to institutional biosafety protocols.
Sample Type Liquid biological cultures, spent culture media, contaminated pipette tips and tubes, small-volume BSL-1/BSL-2 spill sites.
Performance Range / Specifications Achieves 6-log reduction of bacterial spores (B. subtilis) in 30 minutes; complete destruction of plasmid DNA (10 µg/mL) to non-amplifiable level in 15 minutes.
Sensitivity / LOD DNA destruction verified by qPCR showing >10^6-fold reduction in amplifiable template; RNA destruction verified by RT-qPCR.
Specificity Broad-spectrum oxidation of biological macromolecules; does not discriminate between pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms; all biological material oxidized.
Reaction Conditions / Protocol Mix with biological waste at 5-10% v/v; contact time 15-30 minutes at room temperature; verify pH paper turns acidic indicating active peracetic acid.
Components / Formulation Peracetic acid (2-5% equilibrium mixture), hydrogen peroxide (<1%), acetic acid, stabilizer, deionized water.
Storage Conditions Store at 2-8 °C in vented cap container; protect from light and heat sources; do not store near flammable materials.
Shelf Life 12 months from date of manufacture when stored at 2-8 °C; potency decreases over time.
Package Specifications 500 mL, 1 L HDPE bottles with vented cap; bulk 5 L containers available.
Product Form Clear, colorless liquid with pungent vinegar-like odor.
Quality Control Each lot tested for peracetic acid content by iodometric titration; efficacy verified by B. subtilis spore inactivation and plasmid DNA destruction assays.
Key Features Bleach-free and chlorine-free; no toxic trihalomethane by-products; nucleic acid destruction verified; sporicidal activity; biodegradable decomposition products (water, oxygen, acetic acid); vented cap for safe gas release.
Purity Peracetic acid content 2-5% w/v as equilibrium mixture; stabilizer content <0.5%; heavy metals <5 ppm.
Concentration Ready-to-use concentrate; dilute 1:10 to 1:20 with water for general use or use undiluted for high-risk waste.
Activity / Unit Definition Peracetic acid concentration determines oxidizing capacity; 500-1000 ppm active peracetic acid recommended for biological waste treatment.
Molecular Weight Peracetic acid: 76.05 g/mol (CH3CO3H).
Source / Origin Synthesized from acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide with acid catalyst; stabilized with proprietary chelating agent.
pH Range / Optimal pH Concentrate pH 1.0-2.0; working solution pH 3.0-5.0 depending on dilution.
Shipping Conditions Cold chain (2-8 °C) recommended; vented packaging required; classified as oxidizing corrosive liquid for transport.
Expiration Date / Stability 12 months at 2-8 °C; test potency with test strips before each use after 6 months of opening.
Regulatory / Compliance For laboratory waste treatment use; complies with WHO Laboratory Biosafety Manual guidelines for biological waste decontamination. Local regulations for chemical disposal must be observed.
Compatibility Compatible with polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and glass containers. Corrosive to mild steel, copper, brass, and natural rubber; use only with recommended materials.
Recommended Buffer System Not buffered; acidic formulation is inherent to peracetic acid stability and activity.
Application Notes / Precautions Always add decontamination solution TO the waste (not vice versa). Use in well-ventilated area or chemical fume hood. Never mix with bleach, acids other than acetic acid, or flammable organic solvents — may cause violent reaction. Test peracetic acid concentration with test strips before use. Do not seal container tightly during treatment as oxygen gas is evolved. Treated waste must still comply with local disposal regulations.
Batch-to-Batch Consistency Peracetic acid content within ±10% of labeled concentration; sporicidal activity verified per lot.

For research use only, not for clinical use.
