| Description | Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), formerly known as mycobacteria other than tuberculosis (MOTT), refer to mycobacteria other than the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC) and Mycobacterium leprae. They are widely distributed in nature and are opportunistic pathogens. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of NTM-related diseases observed clinically. Since the clinical manifestations of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lung disease often overlap with those of tuberculosis, affecting diagnosis and treatment, patients diagnosed with “tuberculosis” should undergo NTM testing concurrently with anti-tuberculosis drug therapy. The identification of NTM species is of significant diagnostic and therapeutic importance for patients. |
