| Product Name | Methemoglobin (MetHb) Content Assay Reagent (Microplate Reader) |
| Catalog No. | PTR-HMM-0044 |
| Description | Methemoglobin (MetHb) is an oxidized form of hemoglobin, formed when the iron ions in the heme group of deoxygenated or oxygenated hemoglobin are partially or completely oxidized from ferrous ions to ferric ions. After oxidation, methemoglobin loses its oxygen-carrying capacity, The concentration of methemoglobin can be used to assess the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood and red blood cell substitutes, which is of great significance in the clinical diagnosis of methemoglobinemia and the development of red blood cell substitutes. |
| Application | Hemoglobin can bind with oxygen to form oxygenated hemoglobin, and upon deoxygenation, it becomes deoxygenated hemoglobin. The absorbance values of oxygenated hemoglobin, deoxygenated hemoglobin, and methemoglobin are measured at 560 nm, 576 nm, and 630 nm, respectively. Using the extinction coefficients of each component at specific wavelengths, the mass concentration percentage of methemoglobin can be calculated. After determining the total hemoglobin content in the sample, the methemoglobin content can be calculated. |
