Product Name Ethidium Bromide Solution, 10 mg/mL, Molecular Biology Grade
Catalog No. ATRSA-0006
Description A concentrated ethidium bromide solution at 10 mg/mL for use as a fluorescent nucleic acid intercalating stain in agarose gel electrophoresis, with well-established sensitivity and staining characteristics.
Intended Use Fluorescent detection of DNA in agarose gels following electrophoresis for molecular biology research applications in laboratories with appropriate chemical safety protocols.
Principle / Technology Ethidium bromide (3,8-diamino-5-ethyl-6-phenylphenanthridinium bromide) intercalates between DNA base pairs with a 20–25 fold fluorescence enhancement upon binding; excitation maximum at 300–360 nm, emission at 590 nm.
Detection Method UV transillumination at 302 nm, fluorescence imaging with ethidium bromide filter set
Sample Type PCR products, restriction enzyme digests, plasmid DNA, genomic DNA in agarose gels
Performance Range / Specifications Detection limit ~1–2 ng DNA per band; linear signal ~5–500 ng per band
Sensitivity / LOD 1–2 ng per band for double-stranded DNA under optimal UV excitation
Specificity Binds both double-stranded DNA and RNA; does not detect single-stranded nucleic acids efficiently
Reaction Conditions / Protocol Add to molten agarose at 0.5 µg/mL final concentration before gel pouring; or post-stain gel in 0.5 µg/mL solution for 15–30 min with gentle agitation.
Components / Formulation Ethidium bromide 10 mg/mL in ultrapure water, passed through 0.22 µm filter
Storage Conditions 15–30°C, protect from light; mutagen: handle with appropriate PPE
Shelf Life 36 months
Package Specifications 10 mL dropper bottle
Product Form Liquid concentrate
Quality Control Absorbance spectrum verification, concentration by spectrophotometry, DNase/RNase free
Key Features Well-established staining characteristics; economical; high concentration for custom dilution; validated for DNA visualization

For research use only, not for clinical use.
