| Product Name | POPSO free acid biological buffer, CAS 68189-43-5, for electrophysiology and neuronal culture |
| Catalog No. | ATR-B-YJL-0263 |
| Description | POPSO, piperazine-N,N'-bis(2-hydroxypropanesulfonic acid), is a biological buffer with a pKa of 7.8 at 25°C. It is an excellent buffer for cell culture research, electrophysiology, and enzymology. POPSO is highly soluble in water, has an indicator transition range of pH 7.2-8.5, and does not interfere with a number of biochemical assays. POPSO buffer is very stable and shows virtually no reactivity with other chemicals. Unlike many other buffers, it does not interfere with enzymatic assays, particularly those that require low ionic strength. |
| Intended Use | POPSO buffer has a variety of applications across different fields. It is useful in ion transport studies, membrane protein research, enzymatic assays, and electrophysiology. Its buffering capacity is well suited to maintaining the pH of neuronal cultures, which require a reliable buffering system. POPSO can also be used to study the activity of glycolytic enzymes because it does not interfere with their reactions. Owing to its low ionic strength, POPSO is helpful in investigating the effects of different salts on protein stability. |
| Principle / Technology | A sulfonic acid-based zwitterionic buffer whose low ionic strength and chemical inertness allow pH control without disturbing enzymatic reactions or biochemical detection systems. |
