| Product Introduction | Mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) is a key enzyme responsible for detoxifying toxic aldehydes, most notably acetaldehyde derived from ethanol metabolism. It also oxidizes other reactive aldehydes generated during lipid peroxidation, linking it to oxidative stress and cardiovascular health. A common genetic polymorphism (ALDH2*2) significantly reduces its activity, impacting alcohol tolerance and disease risk. This kit uses a specific fluorogenic aldehyde substrate that, upon oxidation by ALDH2, produces a highly fluorescent product. |
| Product Application | • Research on alcohol metabolism, alcohol flush reaction, and alcoholism. • Studies of oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and cardiovascular disease. • Pharmacogenomics of the ALDH2 polymorphism and drug responses (e.g., nitroglycerin). • Investigation of mitochondrial dysfunction and neurodegenerative diseases. |
| Product Advantages | • High Sensitivity & Specificity: The fluorogenic substrate provides exceptional sensitivity, enabling detection of low ALDH2 activity, and is designed for selectivity towards the ALDH2 isoform. • Direct Continuous Assay: Fluorescence increases in real-time as the reaction proceeds, allowing for kinetic measurement and accurate determination of initial velocities. • Ideal for Genetic/Phenotyping Studies: Highly suitable for distinguishing between normal (ALDH2*1/*1), heterozygous (ALDH2*1/*2), and deficient (ALDH2*2/*2) activity phenotypes. • Mitochondrial Lysate Compatible: Optimized for use with mitochondrial extracts, ensuring the measured activity reflects the mitochondrial isoform. |
For research use only, not for clinical use.
