Catalog No. ATR-B-YJL-0247
Description MES sodium salt (MES-Na) is a widely used zwitterionic buffer belonging to the family of Good's buffers, suitable for a broad range of experimental systems and applications. With a molecular formula of C6H14NNaO4S and a molecular weight of 219.23, it offers an effective buffering range of pH 5.5-6.7. Its primary role is to hold the pH of a test system within the desired range. In life science research, pH fluctuations can affect numerous intracellular and extracellular biochemical reactions as well as the stability of molecular structures. The pH range of MES-Na is particularly well suited to cell culture: using MES-Na as a buffering agent keeps the pH of culture media stable, thereby improving culture success rates and supporting faster cell growth. Beyond cell culture, MES-Na is also valuable in diagnostic assays. For example, during the enzymatic degradation of DNA into nucleosides by P1 nuclease, the pH of the buffer strongly influences both reaction rate and degradation efficiency, and MES-Na helps regulate the pH of the reaction system to improve efficiency and accuracy. MES-Na is likewise a very common buffer in plant culture. Plant growth depends on suitable environmental conditions, including appropriate pH and nutrient concentrations; MES-Na helps control the pH of the culture medium, providing a stable environment for plant growth, promoting faster growth and reducing stress responses during cultivation.
Intended Use Biological buffer for cell culture, diagnostic assays and plant tissue culture applications.
