| Product Name | MES potassium salt buffer for protein and enzyme assays and electrophysiology (CAS 39946-25-3) |
| Catalog No. | ATR-B-YJL-0246 |
| Description | MES potassium salt is the neutral salt form of MES, supplied as a crystalline powder in which a positively charged potassium ion is paired with the negatively charged sulfonate counterion. This salt form is favored for its high stability, excellent solubility and resistance to microbial contamination, which is why it is widely used in cell culture media and other biological experiments. MES potassium salt is a white crystalline powder that dissolves rapidly in water, and its pKa depends on the buffering range in use. At a working concentration of 0.1 M, it buffers in the pH range of 5.5-6.7; at 0.01 M, the effective range is pH 5.9-6.8. It exhibits very low toxicity, making it an excellent buffer for protein and enzyme assays, and its resistance to oxidation and reduction makes it suitable for a wide variety of bioassays. Owing to these unique properties, MES potassium salt is extensively used in biological research laboratories. It buffers acidic solutions by absorbing excess H+ ions, thereby supporting enzymatic reactions within cells. These characteristics make it an ideal buffer for protein assays, cell culture and electrophysiology. It is also widely applied in protein purification, where proteins require a constant pH of around 6, and in studies investigating the effect of pH on the enzymatic activity of proteins. |
| Intended Use | Biological buffer for protein and enzyme assays, protein purification, cell culture and electrophysiology studies. |
| Principle / Technology | MES potassium salt is the neutral salt form of the zwitterionic buffer MES; it stabilizes acidic solutions by absorbing excess H+ ions and maintains a constant pH required by proteins and enzymes. |
