| Product Name | HEPES Buffer Reagent for Biochemical pH Control ≥99% Purity CAS 7365-45-9 |
| Catalog No. | ATR-B-YJL-0234 |
| Description | HEPES is a hydrogen-ion buffer used to regulate pH in biochemical reaction systems and in formulations such as virus- or cell-preservation media. The supplied information describes both powder and solution formats, typical working concentrations of 10-50 mmol/L and a common culture-medium concentration of 20 mmol/L. HEPES is described as non-toxic to cells and able to maintain a stable pH range for extended periods. |
| Intended Use | For pH regulation in biochemical experiments, cell-related media and preservation-buffer systems. |
| Components / Formulation | Example 500 mL salt-containing buffer: 6.5 g HEPES, 8.0 g NaCl and 0.198 g Na2HPO4·7H2O, adjusted with 0.5 M NaOH. Example 2× HEPES buffered saline: 1.6 g NaCl, 0.074 g KCl, 0.027 g Na2HPO4·2H2O, 0.2 g glucan or dextran and 1 g HEPES in 90 mL distilled water, adjusted with 0.5 M NaOH and brought to 100 mL. |
| Storage Conditions | Prepared 1 mol/L HEPES stock solution is stored sealed at 4°C; salt-containing prepared buffer is stored at low temperature. |
| Product Form | Powder reagent; solution reagent format is also described. |
| Key Features | Long-duration pH control, lower ionic strength than PBS and suitable for cell-related buffer systems. |
| Purity | ≥99% |
| pH Range / Optimal pH | Buffering range pH 6.6-8.6; generally used for pH 6.8-8.2 reaction systems. |
| Compatibility | HEPES has lower ionic strength than PBS. HEPES is usable in many PBS-compatible systems, while PBS may not substitute for HEPES in all HEPES-dependent applications. PIPES is similar but less water-soluble. |
| Recommended Buffer System | HEPES can be used with NaOH directly or combined with salts and then adjusted with NaOH. |
| Alias | HEPES |
| CAS Number | 7365-45-9 |
| pKa | 7.65 at 20°C |
| Working Concentration | 10-50 mmol/L; 20 mmol/L is a typical culture-medium concentration. |
| Usage Method | For 500 mL of 1 mol/L HEPES stock at pH 7.0, dissolve 119.15 g HEPES, adjust to the required pH with 0.5-1 M NaOH, bring to volume with distilled water and store sealed at 4°C. |
| Customization | Ready-to-use HEPES buffer solutions can be prepared at specified concentrations. |
For research use only, not for clinical use.
