| Product Name | EPPS (HEPPS) buffer for Folin protein quantification, CAS 16052-06-5 |
| Catalog No. | ATR-B-YJL-0232 |
| Description | EPPS (also known as HEPPS) is a biological buffer commonly employed in the Folin-phenol method for protein quantification. The Folin-phenol assay is a fundamental technique for determining protein concentration and is widely used in biochemistry. Its color development principle is the same as that of the biuret method, with the addition of the Folin-phenol reagent to intensify color formation and thereby increase detection sensitivity. Although the Folin-phenol method using EPPS (or HEPPS) as buffer offers good sensitivity and broad applicability in protein detection, potential interfering factors must be carefully considered and operating conditions strictly controlled during actual practice. Beyond improving sensitivity and specificity in the Folin-phenol assay, EPPS has multiple additional applications. In DNA and RNA research, it helps maintain the acid-base balance required by experiments, ensuring accurate and reproducible results. In chloroplast research, it provides a stable chemical environment that supports smooth experimental progress. During freeze-drying, EPPS protects oxyhemoglobin from oxidation to methemoglobin. Overall, EPPS finds wide application across biochemical experimentation. |
| Intended Use | Used as a buffering agent in the Folin-phenol (Lowry) method for protein concentration determination; also suitable for maintaining pH balance in DNA and RNA research, stabilizing experimental conditions in chloroplast studies, and protecting oxyhemoglobin during freeze-drying. |
| Principle / Technology | The Folin-phenol method shares the color development principle of the biuret reaction; the added Folin-phenol reagent increases color yield and therefore detection sensitivity. EPPS provides a stable buffering environment that supports reproducible protein quantification and other pH-sensitive biochemical workflows. |
