Product Name Borate Buffer, 0.1 M, pH 8.5
Catalog No. ATR-B-YJL-0183
Description An alkaline borate buffer system commonly employed in carbohydrate chemistry, glycoprotein analysis, and as an alternative to Tris-based buffers where primary amine reactivity is undesirable.
Intended Use Buffering agent for reducing sugar assays, glycoprotein conjugation reactions, and capillary electrophoresis separations of carbohydrates.
Principle / Technology Boric acid forms tetrahedral borate ions in alkaline solution that complex with cis-diol groups on carbohydrates, providing both buffering and selective glycan interaction.
Detection Method pH electrode, borate-specific colorimetric assay
Sample Type Glycoproteins, monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, polysaccharide preparations
Performance Range / Specifications pH 8.3–8.7, effective buffering pH 8.0–10.0
Sensitivity / LOD N/A
Specificity Complexation with vicinal diols provides discrimination between glycosylated and non-glycosylated species
Reaction Conditions / Protocol Use at 10–100 mM working concentration; prepare fresh for long-term labeling reactions.
Components / Formulation Boric acid, sodium tetraborate in ultrapure water, pH adjusted with NaOH or HCl
Storage Conditions 15–30°C
Shelf Life 12 months; discard if visible precipitation appears
Package Specifications 100 mL, 500 mL
Product Form Liquid
Quality Control pH verification, borate concentration confirmation by titration
Key Features Selective carbohydrate interaction; amine free; compatible with fluorescence labeling; standard for glycan analysis
