Product Introduction Laccase is a multicopper oxidase produced by fungi and some bacteria that catalyzes the oxidation of phenolic compounds, playing a central role in the degradation of lignin and humic substances in soil. Its activity is a sensitive bioindicator of soil health, organic pollution remediation potential, and fungal community dynamics. This kit uses 2,2'-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) as a chromogenic substrate. Laccase oxidizes ABTS to a stable green-colored radical, which is measured spectrophotometrically to determine enzyme activity directly in soil slurries or extracts.
Product Application • Assessment of soil health, fertility, and microbial functional diversity.
• Monitoring bioremediation processes of soils contaminated with phenolic pollutants (e.g., from petrochemicals or pesticides).
• Research on forest ecology, litter decomposition, and carbon cycling.
• Evaluation of agricultural management practices (e.g., tillage, composting) on soil enzyme activities.
Product Advantages • Soil-Matrix Optimized: Specifically formulated to overcome common soil interferences like colored humic substances.
• Stable Chromogenic Substrate: ABTS produces a soluble, stable colored product, making the assay robust and easy to read.
• Direct Slurry Assay Option: Allows for activity measurement with minimal sample processing, preserving in-situ conditions.
• Includes Relevant Controls: Provides guidance for accounting for abiotic oxidation of the substrate.
