Product Introduction β-Glucosidase is a critical enzyme in the final step of cellulose degradation, hydrolyzing cellobiose (a dimer) into two molecules of glucose. Its activity is often considered a key indicator of overall soil microbial activity and soil health because it represents the rate-limiting step in the conversion of plant residues to plant-available sugar. Measuring β-glucosidase activity provides direct insight into the soil's capacity for organic matter decomposition and carbon mineralization. This kit uses a colorimetric synthetic substrate (p-nitrophenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside, pNPG) for sensitive and specific detection.
Product Application • Assessment of soil health and microbial activity.
• Studies on organic matter decomposition and carbon cycling.
• Monitoring the impact of land use change, pollution, or soil amendments.
• Research on the effects of climate factors on soil enzyme kinetics.
Product Advantages • Key Decomposition Indicator: Targets a fundamental and often rate-limiting enzyme in the soil carbon cycle, making it a highly informative metric for soil biological function.
• Sensitive Synthetic Substrate: Uses pNPG, which yields a colored product (p-nitrophenol) upon hydrolysis, allowing for sensitive and straightforward spectrophotometric measurement without interference from soil pigments.
• High-Throughput Design: Configured for 96-well microplates, enabling the efficient processing of 50 soil samples with duplicates in a single kit, perfect for large-scale experiments.
• Standardized & Reliable: Provides optimized buffer and incubation conditions to ensure the measurement reflects the potential enzyme activity present in the soil sample, facilitating comparisons across studies.
