| Product Introduction | Polygalacturonase (PG) is a pectinase that hydrolyzes the α-1,4 linkages in polygalacturonic acid (pectin), a major component of the plant cell wall middle lamella. It is a primary enzyme responsible for pectin depolymerization during fruit softening and abscission. PG is also produced by fungal and bacterial pathogens to macerate plant tissue. This kit uses polygalacturonic acid as the substrate. PG activity is determined by measuring the increase in reducing ends generated from the substrate using the DNS (3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid) method. |
| Product Application | • Research on the molecular basis of fruit ripening, softening, and post-harvest quality. • Studies of plant-pathogen interactions, specifically soft rot diseases caused by fungi and bacteria. • Screening for microbial pectinases for use in the food (juice clarification), textile, or biofuel industries. • Analysis of plant cell wall remodeling during growth and development. |
| Product Advantages | • Natural Substrate: Uses polygalacturonic acid, the natural substrate for PG, ensuring measurement of relevant enzymatic activity. • Classic & Robust Method: The DNS method for reducing sugars is reliable, cost-effective, and widely used. • Simple Protocol: Easy-to-follow steps make it accessible for labs of all sizes. • Versatile Sample Types: Suitable for fruit tissue extracts, fungal culture filtrates, and commercial enzyme preparations. |
For research use only, not for clinical use.
