| Product Name | Caspase-2 Colorimetric Assay Kit |
| Catalog No. | RESK-0176 |
| Description | Caspases are a family of proteases involved in apoptosis, comprising more than ten members. Caspase-2, also known as Ich-1 or Nedd-2, is activated during apoptotic signal transduction. Caspase-2 mRNA has two alternative splice variants: the protein translated from the full-length mRNA promotes apoptosis, whereas the short protein product inhibits apoptosis. Caspase-2 can be activated by Caspase-1, Caspase-3 and granzyme B. |
| Intended Use | For the detection of Caspase-2 activity in mammalian tissues and cells; suitable for apoptosis research. |
| Principle / Technology | The assay is based on the specific hydrolysis of the peptide substrate VDVAD-pNA (Val-Asp-Val-Ala-Asp-p-nitroanilide) by Caspase-2. The released free p-nitroaniline (pNA) shows maximum absorbance at 405 nm, and Caspase-2 activity is determined by colorimetric measurement of pNA. |
| Detection Method | Colorimetric assay (visible spectrophotometry); absorbance read at 405 nm |
| Sample Type | Mammalian tissues and cells |
| Performance Range / Specifications | Caspase-2 activity is determined by visible-light colorimetric measurement of pNA. Suitable for the detection of Caspase-2 activity in mammalian tissues and cells. |
| Specificity | Based on the specific hydrolysis of the VDVAD-pNA substrate by Caspase-2. |
